All-American Bryant signs with national powerhouse University of San Diego

(Dec. 2, 2009) – Bonanza senior and AFLAC All-American Kris Bryant signed his national letter of intent to play for the University of San Diego.

The 6-foot-5 senior infielder, who has been a three-year starter for the Bengals heading into his fourth season, was one of five Aflac All-Americans to sign with the Toreros during the fall signing period, the most of any team in the nation. Bryant signs along with Dylan Covey, Tony Wolters, Marcus Littlewood and Kellen Sweeney. The runners-up in the Aflac derby were LSU, the 2009 national champions, and Miami with three Aflac All-Americans apiece.

"This equates to five McDonald's All-Americans in basketball," USD head coach Rich Hill said. "Remarkable."

USD finished 29-25 last season, but has been a national contender for the better part of this decade.

"This is an outstanding group of players, probably the best that I've been a part of," said Hill, entering his 12th year at San Diego and 22nd overall in college coaching. "This is a phenomenal group in terms of ability, character, academics and commitment to spending their first 36 months in college developing."

Former Bengal Tomo Delp (2008) also has signed with a Division-I program as he inked with the University of Maryland. A member of the rough-and-tumble ACC, Delp is currently in his sophomore season with CSN along with former teammate Chasen Shreve, who has yet to sign. Both were also members of this past summer's third place Bonanza Legion squad that finished 14-10.
